Narrative:

Took over controls at about 1000 ft AGL and proceeded with radio calls and a left pattern to land on or near runway 31. Another glider with tow plane were staged on approach of runway 31. I announced we would land on the grass rather than the runway. As other gliders were parked to the right of the runway; I elected to land on its left side. On short final in 10 mph headwinds; I encountered 600 FPM thermal (updraft); leaving me too high to land short of runway to the left. Elected to land on grass further to the left behind hangar and completed landing roll in long grass field behind hangars; between hangars and a midfield flagpole. Despite full airbrake deployment and a forward slip; touched down beyond intended touchdown point and rolled out despite aggressive wheel brake application longer than expected. Upon exiting the glider to return it to the flight line; noticed that left wingtip most outboard 6 inches had been dented by some ground object contact.

Title: SWITZER 2-33 GLIDER PLT CONTACTS OBJECT WITH L WING DURING LNDG ROLL.

Narrative: TOOK OVER CTLS AT ABOUT 1000 FT AGL AND PROCEEDED WITH RADIO CALLS AND A L PATTERN TO LAND ON OR NEAR RWY 31. ANOTHER GLIDER WITH TOW PLANE WERE STAGED ON APCH OF RWY 31. I ANNOUNCED WE WOULD LAND ON THE GRASS RATHER THAN THE RWY. AS OTHER GLIDERS WERE PARKED TO THE R OF THE RWY; I ELECTED TO LAND ON ITS L SIDE. ON SHORT FINAL IN 10 MPH HEADWINDS; I ENCOUNTERED 600 FPM THERMAL (UPDRAFT); LEAVING ME TOO HIGH TO LAND SHORT OF RWY TO THE L. ELECTED TO LAND ON GRASS FURTHER TO THE L BEHIND HANGAR AND COMPLETED LNDG ROLL IN LONG GRASS FIELD BEHIND HANGARS; BTWN HANGARS AND A MIDFIELD FLAGPOLE. DESPITE FULL AIRBRAKE DEPLOYMENT AND A FORWARD SLIP; TOUCHED DOWN BEYOND INTENDED TOUCHDOWN POINT AND ROLLED OUT DESPITE AGGRESSIVE WHEEL BRAKE APPLICATION LONGER THAN EXPECTED. UPON EXITING THE GLIDER TO RETURN IT TO THE FLT LINE; NOTICED THAT L WINGTIP MOST OUTBOARD 6 INCHES HAD BEEN DENTED BY SOME GND OBJECT CONTACT.
