Narrative:

I was dispatched to a gate with a live departure. The air carrier ife system was inoperative. The #2 video control player had a stuck svhs tape inside. I removed the stuck tape but had to defer the video control player as inoperative per the MEL. I called our maintenance control center for the proper MEL reference. I was given an MEL number. This MEL reference covers in-seat reading lights not entertainment system items. I checked the MEL status the next day and found that the maintenance control center did change the reference to the proper MEL number. The only consequence/outcome was the maintenance coordinator changing the MEL reference in the computer.
