Narrative:

During climb out received engine #1; loop a; fault indication. Executed ECAM and QRH procedures. No secondaries. A few mins later; approaching cruise altitude of FL340; received aft cargo loop fault indication. Upon executing ECAM and QRH procedures received aft cargo smoke indication with chime. Executed ECAM and QRH procedures. Declared emergency with ZZZ ARTCC and returned to ZZZ. During descent; flight attendants reported they smelled smoke in cabin. Flight attendants reported smoke dissipated short time later prior to approach/landing. Cockpit smoke indication and chime were intermittent during descent. Cockpit smoke indication extinguished prior to approach/landing. Uneventful landing. Fire crews examined aircraft on runway and determined no smoke or fire. Fire crews escorted aircraft to gate. No further indications/events. No injuries reported.

A FEW MINS LATER; APCHING CRUISE ALT OF FL340; RECEIVED AFT CARGO LOOP FAULT INDICATION. UPON EXECUTING ECAM AND QRH PROCS RECEIVED AFT CARGO SMOKE INDICATION WITH CHIME. EXECUTED ECAM AND QRH PROCS. DECLARED EMER WITH ZZZ ARTCC AND RETURNED TO ZZZ. DURING DSCNT; FLT ATTENDANTS RPTED THEY SMELLED SMOKE IN CABIN. FLT ATTENDANTS RPTED SMOKE DISSIPATED SHORT TIME LATER PRIOR TO APCH/LNDG.
