Narrative:

On walkaround I found a rivet missing on the pylon aft of the right engine. Maintenance came out and deferred the item via repair document srm 51-40-00-2 'repair document for missing fasteners.' we were given a copy of this document and checked the logbook for a signoff and we departed. At cruise we read the whole repair doc and noticed that under paragraph 2B it said 'fastener must not be larger than 3/16 inch diameter and must not be a permanent fastener (eg; a hi-lok or rivet).' this appears to be the wrong deferral for this item.
