Narrative:
While troubleshooting aircraft X for a symbol generating problem with the captain's CDU; the left symbol generator was determined to be faulty. I removed the existing symbol generator (part #X) and replaced it with the same part #X. It was determined the next day part #X was not the correct effectivity.

Narrative: WHILE TROUBLESHOOTING ACFT X FOR A SYMBOL GENERATING PROB WITH THE CAPT'S CDU; THE L SYMBOL GENERATOR WAS DETERMINED TO BE FAULTY. I REMOVED THE EXISTING SYMBOL GENERATOR (PART #X) AND REPLACED IT WITH THE SAME PART #X. IT WAS DETERMINED THE NEXT DAY PART #X WAS NOT THE CORRECT EFFECTIVITY.
