Narrative:

Was called back early to work final control because arrival was having difficulty keeping up with the workload. I opened the 'F' final position with a very limited briefing from the arrival controller. I was immediately given 3 or 4 handoffs; however; the arrival controller only switched one to my frequency. I descended the one I had and started working it towards the ILS final. I cleared them for an ILS approach to runway 18C; at which time the supervisor brought to my attention that there was another aircraft not on my tag out there at 4000 ft. I gave my aircraft immediate descent. Supervisor should have opened the position sooner.
