Narrative:

Aircraft #1 was climbed to FL280. Then saw that aircraft #2 was traffic at FL270. Stopped aircraft #1 at FL260; but aircraft #1 did not get clearance and continued climb to FL280. Supplemental information from acn 654168: an amended altitude for aircraft #2 was issued to FL260. I thought I heard FL260. Aircraft #1 was north of vhp and aircraft #2 was south of vhp when altitude was noticed FL263. I told aircraft to maintain FL260. He stated he was higher and at that point they were 5 mi apart. Another aircraft must have called on when I issued the amended clearance and led me to believe aircraft #2 responded. I should have made sure that was the case.

Title: ZID CTLRS DESCRIBE OPERROR AT FL270 DURING OJT PERIOD AS DEVELOPMENTAL CTLR FAILS TO HEAR INCORRECT ALT ASSIGNMENT.

Narrative: ACFT #1 WAS CLBED TO FL280. THEN SAW THAT ACFT #2 WAS TFC AT FL270. STOPPED ACFT #1 AT FL260; BUT ACFT #1 DID NOT GET CLRNC AND CONTINUED CLB TO FL280. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 654168: AN AMENDED ALT FOR ACFT #2 WAS ISSUED TO FL260. I THOUGHT I HEARD FL260. ACFT #1 WAS N OF VHP AND ACFT #2 WAS S OF VHP WHEN ALT WAS NOTICED FL263. I TOLD ACFT TO MAINTAIN FL260. HE STATED HE WAS HIGHER AND AT THAT POINT THEY WERE 5 MI APART. ANOTHER ACFT MUST HAVE CALLED ON WHEN I ISSUED THE AMENDED CLRNC AND LED ME TO BELIEVE ACFT #2 RESPONDED. I SHOULD HAVE MADE SURE THAT WAS THE CASE.
