Narrative:

After takeoff from runway 24; I climbed to 1500 ft then turned right to 280 degrees. I had a malfunction of the altitude pre-select on the autoplt and flew through the 2000 ft required at the after 4.5 DME fix from teb. At that time the controller stated the 1500 ft restr and then cleared me to a higher altitude. I was prepared for this departure; I even had the FAA safety sheet titled 'the heart of the teb 5 departure.' this is not a difficult departure. If I ever go to teb again I will hand fly the airplane. This will prevent a recurrence of this happening again. It will never happen again!
