Narrative:

Flight was cleared for takeoff on runway 1L at mci. At between 85-90 KTS, the left aft entry door EICAS message appeared on the upper EICAS screen. Captain elected to abort the takeoff. Rejected takeoff, braking engaged as both throttles were retarded from takeoff thrust to idle. The abort was completely uneventful. Automatic brakes were disengaged as aircraft decelerated through approximately 60 KTS. Captain taxied the aircraft clear of the runway and after consultation with dispatch and maintenance control, aircraft returned to gate for a required maintenance inspection. After maintenance inspection by other airline contract maintenance in mci, aircraft was returned to service without limitation and proceeded on to original destination.
