Narrative:

Packs of roaming coyotes and or domestic dogs are a daily occurrence on the saf airport. The above departing beech duke missed 3 coyotes by 5 ft vertical. There is a new fence around the airport perimeter, but has holes dug under the fence in several spots. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: reporter said a very expensive security fence was installed around the airport. He said although airport management believed the fence would reduce the number of coyotes coming onto the airport, it did not help. He said the animals just dig a passage under the fence and enter the airport. He said the food source for coyotes are prairie dogs that live near the runways. He has been told by the health department that the prairie dogs are afflicted with monkey pox disease that can be transmitted to humans. He said no one really knows what can be done to rid the airport of the prairie dogs without stirring up the environment groups. The reporter said in the 7 yrs he has been at the airport, he only knows of 2 incidents where aircraft have struck an animal.
