Narrative:

During approach to landing I received an indication that the right main landing gear was not down and locked (no green light). I recycled the gear and went through the emergency checklist to no avail. The landing was normal but I had fire emergency vehicles called as a precaution. I had the plane towed in rather than taxi in as I was still afraid of a possible gear collapse. A mechanic came and found the problem to be a defective bulb. I had just finished training at a commercial flight school, but bulb checking/changing was never mentioned. It should be added to the emergency gear unsafe checklist for this plane as it is something a pilot can correct. Although when I later did try to check for a faulty bulb I was unable to correctly replace the 3 bulb unit which didn't just slide back in but had to be cocked to click into place. It is simple to do once you are shown and should be made part of the training program.

IT SHOULD BE ADDED TO THE EMER GEAR UNSAFE CHKLIST FOR THIS PLANE AS IT IS SOMETHING A PLT CAN CORRECT. ALTHOUGH WHEN I LATER DID TRY TO CHK FOR A FAULTY BULB I WAS UNABLE TO CORRECTLY REPLACE THE 3 BULB UNIT WHICH DIDN'T JUST SLIDE BACK IN BUT HAD TO BE COCKED TO CLICK INTO PLACE.
