Narrative:

Inbound on the sinca 3 arrival into atl. Center advised us to cross canuk intersection at 12000 ft/250 KTS. Through about FL200 on our normal descent profile, center reduced us to 250 KTS. The slower descent speed put us high on the descent profile, so the captain extended the speed brakes to help the descent rate. Seeing we were not going to make the restr, center gave us a short vector off the arrival then asked if we could now make canuk at 12000 ft. We said yes, then the controller cleared us direct to husky intersection (which was a shorter route to atl 40 DME than going back to canuk). He then gave us a restr to cross 40 DME at 12000 ft. With the shorter distance now to atl, we advised we would not make the restr. ZTL controller expressed some frustration with that, and then told us to hurry down. We crossed 40 DME probably 1000 ft high. I only wished I had better explained to the controller why we had a problem with the clearance, but he was very busy at the time.

Title: B757 FLT CREW ON STAR TO ATL IS GIVEN DELAY VECTORS TO MAKE ONE XING ALT AND THEN ISSUED SHORT CUT ROUTING RESULTING IN HIGH XING AT THE NEXT FIX.

Narrative: INBOUND ON THE SINCA 3 ARR INTO ATL. CTR ADVISED US TO CROSS CANUK INTXN AT 12000 FT/250 KTS. THROUGH ABOUT FL200 ON OUR NORMAL DSCNT PROFILE, CTR REDUCED US TO 250 KTS. THE SLOWER DSCNT SPD PUT US HIGH ON THE DSCNT PROFILE, SO THE CAPT EXTENDED THE SPD BRAKES TO HELP THE DSCNT RATE. SEEING WE WERE NOT GOING TO MAKE THE RESTR, CTR GAVE US A SHORT VECTOR OFF THE ARR THEN ASKED IF WE COULD NOW MAKE CANUK AT 12000 FT. WE SAID YES, THEN THE CTLR CLRED US DIRECT TO HUSKY INTXN (WHICH WAS A SHORTER RTE TO ATL 40 DME THAN GOING BACK TO CANUK). HE THEN GAVE US A RESTR TO CROSS 40 DME AT 12000 FT. WITH THE SHORTER DISTANCE NOW TO ATL, WE ADVISED WE WOULD NOT MAKE THE RESTR. ZTL CTLR EXPRESSED SOME FRUSTRATION WITH THAT, AND THEN TOLD US TO HURRY DOWN. WE CROSSED 40 DME PROBABLY 1000 FT HIGH. I ONLY WISHED I HAD BETTER EXPLAINED TO THE CTLR WHY WE HAD A PROB WITH THE CLRNC, BUT HE WAS VERY BUSY AT THE TIME.
