Narrative:

After returning to the gate due to a lavatory smoke light we were inspected by maintenance. We ran all kinds of checks. Helped run engines for a good 1/2 hour. They signed off the aircraft as good to go. With the concurrence of dispatch moc and crew. We decided to go back to runway. In the climb out we again got the lavatory smoke light. Got the warning in the cabin, saw smoke and smelled odor. Applied aom procedures, declared an emergency, notified dispatch, returned to ZZZ. Landed again with the intent of evacuate/evacuation, but got on the ground and determined that it was ok to take the aircraft to parking. Crew deplaned ok and dispatch moc were notified again. The next day the first officer and I ferried the aircraft to ZZZ1. The plane had been cleared by maintenance moc dispatch to have a ferry permit to fly with right pack off and below FL250. We flew to ZZZ1 with no problems.
