Narrative:

A formation flight of 2 was landing out of a 360 overhead approach. After touchdown, the second ship in the formation suffered a blowout of the left main tire. The aircraft was centered on the left half of the runway. The aircraft pulled sharply to the left. Full control application prevented the aircraft from turning 90 degrees and sliding sideways but was not enough to keep the aircraft from running off the left side of the runway. A taxi sign and light were hit at taxi speed, destroying them. Aircraft damage was restr to the left main gear doors and sheet metal on the underside of the wing. There were no injuries. The cause of the blowout is not known at this time. The position of the aircraft on the left side of the runway made the blowout on the left main gear more critical since there was less distance to the edge. Landing on opposite sides of the runway is standard when landing out of a formation.

Title: FOLLOWING FORMATION LNDG AT DVT, CIVIL REGISTERED MIL TRAINER ACFT BLOWS TIRE AND EXITS RWY, STRIKING RWY SIGN AND LIGHT.

Narrative: A FORMATION FLT OF 2 WAS LNDG OUT OF A 360 OVERHEAD APCH. AFTER TOUCHDOWN, THE SECOND SHIP IN THE FORMATION SUFFERED A BLOWOUT OF THE L MAIN TIRE. THE ACFT WAS CTRED ON THE L HALF OF THE RWY. THE ACFT PULLED SHARPLY TO THE L. FULL CTL APPLICATION PREVENTED THE ACFT FROM TURNING 90 DEGS AND SLIDING SIDEWAYS BUT WAS NOT ENOUGH TO KEEP THE ACFT FROM RUNNING OFF THE L SIDE OF THE RWY. A TAXI SIGN AND LIGHT WERE HIT AT TAXI SPD, DESTROYING THEM. ACFT DAMAGE WAS RESTR TO THE L MAIN GEAR DOORS AND SHEET METAL ON THE UNDERSIDE OF THE WING. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE CAUSE OF THE BLOWOUT IS NOT KNOWN AT THIS TIME. THE POS OF THE ACFT ON THE L SIDE OF THE RWY MADE THE BLOWOUT ON THE L MAIN GEAR MORE CRITICAL SINCE THERE WAS LESS DISTANCE TO THE EDGE. LNDG ON OPPOSITE SIDES OF THE RWY IS STANDARD WHEN LNDG OUT OF A FORMATION.
