Narrative:

Departure off teb runway 24, climb runway heading to 1500 ft, right turn to 280 degree heading, then climb to 2000 ft at approximately 3.5 DME. I misunderstood procedure. Climbed to 1500 ft on runway heading and continued climb to 2000 ft after turn. Contributing factors: long day (fatigue) and angry with first officer due to conflict with first officer and line service at teb (over chocks). Should have known better and read procedure myself prior to takeoff, but was discussing conflict instead. Departure advised that we were 500 ft too high prior to climb point.
