Narrative:

We had a crossing restr of FL240 90 mi south of ord. First officer was flying and I was busy with changeover. He was looking at GPS for DME information which added in total route DME instead of straight line distance to ord. When we looked at VOR we were too close to make the restr. At VOR, we were too close to make the restr. ATC did not seem to be concerned.
