Narrative:

Engine failure and confirmed fire on #1 (left) engine. No indications (EICAS, fire handle, etc) for fire were indicated in cockpit. There were also no EICAS warnings for the engine shutdown such as low oil pressure, etc. Fire was confirmed by the pilot jump seat rider who verified engine fire via interphone. Cockpit and cabin smoke dissipated shortly after checklists were accomplished. Supplemental information from acn 622385: engine failure left side. In cruise at 35000 ft at .80 mach large boom excessive vibration left engine caught on fire. We declared an emergency. We shut down engine, put out fire and got vectors to rdu and landed 18800 pounds over gross. No injuries to anyone to the best of my knowledge.
