Narrative:
Crew was instructed by ord ground metering to monitor ground control. Ground control then broadcasted to our flight, 'flight X, runway 32L via taxiway T10.' both myself and first officer interpreted this response to mean taxi to runway 32L via taxiway T10. I then taxied the aircraft out of the alley up to taxiway a, but stopped on taxiway a for further instructions from ground. Ground controller immediately and rudely chastised crew for taxiing on taxiway a without clearance. Both myself and my first officer were new to ord and were unfamiliar with ground operations. We finally realized that although ground stated 'runway 32L at taxiway T10,' it appears it was not a clearance to taxi yet. Next tie, we will understand this protocol, but ord ground needs to be more clear and specific over the radio for those of us who don't understand their 'lingo.' unfamiliarity and directions were the main contributors to this miscom.

Narrative: CREW WAS INSTRUCTED BY ORD GND METERING TO MONITOR GND CTL. GND CTL THEN BROADCASTED TO OUR FLT, 'FLT X, RWY 32L VIA TXWY T10.' BOTH MYSELF AND FO INTERPED THIS RESPONSE TO MEAN TAXI TO RWY 32L VIA TXWY T10. I THEN TAXIED THE ACFT OUT OF THE ALLEY UP TO TXWY A, BUT STOPPED ON TXWY A FOR FURTHER INSTRUCTIONS FROM GND. GND CTLR IMMEDIATELY AND RUDELY CHASTISED CREW FOR TAXIING ON TXWY A WITHOUT CLRNC. BOTH MYSELF AND MY FO WERE NEW TO ORD AND WERE UNFAMILIAR WITH GND OPS. WE FINALLY REALIZED THAT ALTHOUGH GND STATED 'RWY 32L AT TXWY T10,' IT APPEARS IT WAS NOT A CLRNC TO TAXI YET. NEXT TIE, WE WILL UNDERSTAND THIS PROTOCOL, BUT ORD GND NEEDS TO BE MORE CLR AND SPECIFIC OVER THE RADIO FOR THOSE OF US WHO DON'T UNDERSTAND THEIR 'LINGO.' UNFAMILIARITY AND DIRECTIONS WERE THE MAIN CONTRIBUTORS TO THIS MISCOM.
