Narrative:
While practicing full stop lndgs with less than ideal winds during recurrency training with my instructor, I exited the runway onto the intersecting (inactive) runway by mistake. I realized my mistake immediately, but the only practical, sensible thing to do was continue taxiing. I quickly exited the runway at the first available taxiway and called the tower. The controller was gentle and forgiving. I guess I was concentrating too hard on controling the airplane and not focused enough on signage and pavement markings (until it was too late). I was also too intent on exiting the active runway as soon as possible. One of the reasons I was with an instructor is that, although I have achieved a flight review endorsement, I recognize that not having flown for 6 1/2 yrs, it's going to take quite a few more hours with an instructor in the right seat before I am truly comfortable and proficient in an airplane again. What happened today proves it!

Title: STUDENT PLT OF PA28 PRACTICING FULL STOP LNDGS EXITS ONTO INTERSECTING RWY AFTER LNDG AT POU, NY.
Narrative: WHILE PRACTICING FULL STOP LNDGS WITH LESS THAN IDEAL WINDS DURING RECURRENCY TRAINING WITH MY INSTRUCTOR, I EXITED THE RWY ONTO THE INTERSECTING (INACTIVE) RWY BY MISTAKE. I REALIZED MY MISTAKE IMMEDIATELY, BUT THE ONLY PRACTICAL, SENSIBLE THING TO DO WAS CONTINUE TAXIING. I QUICKLY EXITED THE RWY AT THE FIRST AVAILABLE TXWY AND CALLED THE TWR. THE CTLR WAS GENTLE AND FORGIVING. I GUESS I WAS CONCENTRATING TOO HARD ON CTLING THE AIRPLANE AND NOT FOCUSED ENOUGH ON SIGNAGE AND PAVEMENT MARKINGS (UNTIL IT WAS TOO LATE). I WAS ALSO TOO INTENT ON EXITING THE ACTIVE RWY ASAP. ONE OF THE REASONS I WAS WITH AN INSTRUCTOR IS THAT, ALTHOUGH I HAVE ACHIEVED A FLT REVIEW ENDORSEMENT, I RECOGNIZE THAT NOT HAVING FLOWN FOR 6 1/2 YRS, IT'S GOING TO TAKE QUITE A FEW MORE HRS WITH AN INSTRUCTOR IN THE R SEAT BEFORE I AM TRULY COMFORTABLE AND PROFICIENT IN AN AIRPLANE AGAIN.
