Narrative:

Upon completion of a demonstration, the crew elected to land at ZZZ to see if additional photographs were needed. A normal approach was made to land on runway 13. On initial approach, glide path and airspeed were high, so the pilot initiated a go around. A second approach was made. The glide path was again a little high and the airspeed was approximately 85 KTS on final, so the aircraft touched down at approximately midfield with approximately 1500 ft remaining and an airspeed of approximately 75 KTS. Flaps were set to 10 degrees. The pilot determined that there was insufficient runway remaining to stop the aircraft and initiated a second go around. When the throttle was advanced to full, the engine hesitated for approximately 2-3 seconds before increasing in RPM. The aircraft became airborne just short of the REIL's and contacted one of the lights. A normal departure was made and a third approach attempted. This approach was broken off when another aircraft was seen on the runway. The aircraft then returned to ZZZ1 and made an uneventful normal landing. After landing, the aircraft was inspected and damage was noted to the fairing around the left main landing gear near the entry step and a small hole/dent was noted on the bottom side of the left horizontal stabilizer. The ZZZ airport manager was contacted by radio and notified of the damage to the airport lighting prior to leaving the airport area. He was again contacted by telephone when we returned to ZZZ1. Additional training has been scheduled with a local CFI to work on my short field landing techniques. Since my BFR is due in may/2004, short field lndgs will be checked by the CFI. Supplemental information from acn 615495: as the pilot maneuvered to line up on final, he indicated he was too high again. I suggested flaps as a possible option. He agreed, and put in some flaps. I believe about 10 degrees of flaps on touchdown, there was a lurch to the right, as if from drifting on touchdown. There was a momentary stall horn heard, but immediately silenced by appropriate response by the pilot. He then attempted a fourth approach into the airport, from the opposite direction. The wind was still light, so I felt this was ok. However, this approach a gain was high, so I suggested we just return to minot.

Title: A C182 PLT IS UNABLE TO LAND AT ZZZ ARPT AFTER 4 ATTEMPTS. 1 ATTEMPT RESULTED IN THE ACFT COMING IN CONTACT WITH THE REILS.

Narrative: UPON COMPLETION OF A DEMONSTRATION, THE CREW ELECTED TO LAND AT ZZZ TO SEE IF ADDITIONAL PHOTOGRAPHS WERE NEEDED. A NORMAL APCH WAS MADE TO LAND ON RWY 13. ON INITIAL APCH, GLIDE PATH AND AIRSPD WERE HIGH, SO THE PLT INITIATED A GAR. A SECOND APCH WAS MADE. THE GLIDE PATH WAS AGAIN A LITTLE HIGH AND THE AIRSPD WAS APPROX 85 KTS ON FINAL, SO THE ACFT TOUCHED DOWN AT APPROX MIDFIELD WITH APPROX 1500 FT REMAINING AND AN AIRSPD OF APPROX 75 KTS. FLAPS WERE SET TO 10 DEGS. THE PLT DETERMINED THAT THERE WAS INSUFFICIENT RWY REMAINING TO STOP THE ACFT AND INITIATED A SECOND GAR. WHEN THE THROTTLE WAS ADVANCED TO FULL, THE ENG HESITATED FOR APPROX 2-3 SECONDS BEFORE INCREASING IN RPM. THE ACFT BECAME AIRBORNE JUST SHORT OF THE REIL'S AND CONTACTED ONE OF THE LIGHTS. A NORMAL DEP WAS MADE AND A THIRD APCH ATTEMPTED. THIS APCH WAS BROKEN OFF WHEN ANOTHER ACFT WAS SEEN ON THE RWY. THE ACFT THEN RETURNED TO ZZZ1 AND MADE AN UNEVENTFUL NORMAL LNDG. AFTER LNDG, THE ACFT WAS INSPECTED AND DAMAGE WAS NOTED TO THE FAIRING AROUND THE L MAIN LNDG GEAR NEAR THE ENTRY STEP AND A SMALL HOLE/DENT WAS NOTED ON THE BOTTOM SIDE OF THE L HORIZ STABILIZER. THE ZZZ ARPT MGR WAS CONTACTED BY RADIO AND NOTIFIED OF THE DAMAGE TO THE ARPT LIGHTING PRIOR TO LEAVING THE ARPT AREA. HE WAS AGAIN CONTACTED BY TELEPHONE WHEN WE RETURNED TO ZZZ1. ADDITIONAL TRAINING HAS BEEN SCHEDULED WITH A LCL CFI TO WORK ON MY SHORT FIELD LNDG TECHNIQUES. SINCE MY BFR IS DUE IN MAY/2004, SHORT FIELD LNDGS WILL BE CHKED BY THE CFI. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 615495: AS THE PLT MANEUVERED TO LINE UP ON FINAL, HE INDICATED HE WAS TOO HIGH AGAIN. I SUGGESTED FLAPS AS A POSSIBLE OPTION. HE AGREED, AND PUT IN SOME FLAPS. I BELIEVE ABOUT 10 DEGS OF FLAPS ON TOUCHDOWN, THERE WAS A LURCH TO THE R, AS IF FROM DRIFTING ON TOUCHDOWN. THERE WAS A MOMENTARY STALL HORN HEARD, BUT IMMEDIATELY SILENCED BY APPROPRIATE RESPONSE BY THE PLT. HE THEN ATTEMPTED A FOURTH APCH INTO THE ARPT, FROM THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION. THE WIND WAS STILL LIGHT, SO I FELT THIS WAS OK. HOWEVER, THIS APCH A GAIN WAS HIGH, SO I SUGGESTED WE JUST RETURN TO MINOT.
