Narrative:

I was moving the C182 from ZZZ to ZZZ1 to be painted. We looked at the fuel in the C182 and the gauges showed 1/2 right, 1/4 left. I took off in the C182 and was 10 mi from ZZZ1 when the engine quit cold. The right tank gauge was still on 1/2 tank, left on 1/4. I switched the fuel selector from right to both. I repeatedly hit the fuel pump switch, but the engine did not restart. The propeller was windmilling. I was at about 1000 ft. I selected a field and executed a forced landing. The landing was gentle and the aircraft sustained no damage. I was not injured. I tried to start the engine, and it fired right up. I then contacted another aircraft and reported down in a field. Title: C182 PLT MAKES FORCED LNDG AFTER ENG FAILURE DUE TO FUEL STARVATION.

Narrative: I WAS MOVING THE C182 FROM ZZZ TO ZZZ1 TO BE PAINTED. WE LOOKED AT THE FUEL IN THE C182 AND THE GAUGES SHOWED 1/2 R, 1/4 L. I TOOK OFF IN THE C182 AND WAS 10 MI FROM ZZZ1 WHEN THE ENG QUIT COLD. THE R TANK GAUGE WAS STILL ON 1/2 TANK, L ON 1/4. I SWITCHED THE FUEL SELECTOR FROM R TO BOTH. I REPEATEDLY HIT THE FUEL PUMP SWITCH, BUT THE ENG DID NOT RESTART. THE PROP WAS WINDMILLING. I WAS AT ABOUT 1000 FT. I SELECTED A FIELD AND EXECUTED A FORCED LNDG.
