Narrative:

Approaching ege after 3 hourly WX reports of calm winds the WX was reported as 90 broken overcast, winds 090 degrees at 18 KTS gusting to 28 KTS to 070 degrees 10 KTS gusting to 18-21 KTS. ZDV gave us a vector north of the airport and descent to 13000 ft for landing runway 7. When we saw the field we were changed to ege tower and were told to report 5 mi base. At that point left base for a straight-in over the hill looked like the best choice. Unfortunately, I didn't get slowed down early enough for flaps 30 degrees before I started down, so final was very unstable high airspeed, high sink rate, terrain warning toward the end (due to the sink rate), flaps 25 degrees, and worst of all, idle thrust from 9000 ft to touchdown -- a classic.
