Narrative:

I flew aircraft from lga to ZZZ and back on jan/xx/04. Flts XXXX and XXXX respectively. Prior to this flight, a large panel was missing from the aircraft on the aft right side. However, this missing panel was allowed under the cdl, and thus I had no reasonable cause to refuse to fly the aircraft. No abnormal vibrations, noises, or flight control sensations or forces were noted during either flight. This aircraft was involved in major rudder control failure about 1 week later. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: the reporter stated the report was submitted to record the fact that no abnormal vibrations, noises, or flight control sensations or forces were noted. The reporter said this aircraft was involved in major rudder control failure about 1 week later. The reporter stated it's really a cover your back side report.
