Narrative:

Called dtw approach while in air for IFR clearance to columbus, oh. Controller seemed perturbed and very short. Gave clearance very fast and short with altitude of 9000 ft. Asked to repeat twice as clearance was rather complex. Second clearance instructed to climb 5000 ft, third to 9000 ft. Controller inquired altitude I was climbing to when I was at 6000 ft. Told climbing to 9000 ft. He responded that only cleared to 5000 ft. I should have asked controller to verify altitude when had a difference and controller should not be in such a hurry to rattle off clrncs.
