Narrative:

At stl one controller was controling ground, tower and departure. We were given taxi instruction and while we were close to the runway, were given takeoff clearance. We announced 'rolling' for takeoff. The controller said nothing. After takeoff the controller gave us a number to call. We called and he said he did not give us takeoff clearance, which he did. I believe that one controller should not be controling ground, tower and departure, and they should be rotated regularly to keep them fresh and alert.
