Narrative:

Approximately 40 NM wnw of ric, we asked for deviation south to avoid level 4 and 5 WX echoes. Potomac approach control approved 'deviations south for WX.' just after being cleared for deviating around WX, radio contact was lost with potomac approach. Lost communication appeared to be caused by a stuck microphone. After 1 min of attempting contact on several frequencys, we contacted potomac approach on an uneffected frequency and were informed we had violated restr airspace. It is possible with good communications with approach that we could have found a way around the level 5 WX. North fact, I am sure that working communication would have prevented the airspace incursion. The EFIS in the crj does not display any sua. The #1 priority was to avoid the dangerous WX and rely on ATC to avoid the restr area. The heavy WX and turbulence plus the high workload on arrival coupled with trying to re-establish communication led to the incursion. ATC also issued an open 'deviations south' clearance with no advisory about the restr airspace. They might have intended to turn us but were unable to because of radio interference. Suggestion: sua to be depicted on EFIS.

Title: CRJ 200 ON WX DEV RTE EXPERIENCED RADIO PROB AND ENTERED RESTR AREA.

Narrative: APPROX 40 NM WNW OF RIC, WE ASKED FOR DEV S TO AVOID LEVEL 4 AND 5 WX ECHOES. POTOMAC APCH CTL APPROVED 'DEVS S FOR WX.' JUST AFTER BEING CLRED FOR DEVIATING AROUND WX, RADIO CONTACT WAS LOST WITH POTOMAC APCH. LOST COM APPEARED TO BE CAUSED BY A STUCK MIKE. AFTER 1 MIN OF ATTEMPTING CONTACT ON SEVERAL FREQS, WE CONTACTED POTOMAC APCH ON AN UNEFFECTED FREQ AND WERE INFORMED WE HAD VIOLATED RESTR AIRSPACE. IT IS POSSIBLE WITH GOOD COMS WITH APCH THAT WE COULD HAVE FOUND A WAY AROUND THE LEVEL 5 WX. N FACT, I AM SURE THAT WORKING COM WOULD HAVE PREVENTED THE AIRSPACE INCURSION. THE EFIS IN THE CRJ DOES NOT DISPLAY ANY SUA. THE #1 PRIORITY WAS TO AVOID THE DANGEROUS WX AND RELY ON ATC TO AVOID THE RESTR AREA. THE HVY WX AND TURB PLUS THE HIGH WORKLOAD ON ARR COUPLED WITH TRYING TO RE-ESTABLISH COM LED TO THE INCURSION. ATC ALSO ISSUED AN OPEN 'DEVS S' CLRNC WITH NO ADVISORY ABOUT THE RESTR AIRSPACE. THEY MIGHT HAVE INTENDED TO TURN US BUT WERE UNABLE TO BECAUSE OF RADIO INTERFERENCE. SUGGESTION: SUA TO BE DEPICTED ON EFIS.
