Narrative:

During a layover I got a call from our #1 flight attendant who admitted that both she and #2 flight attendant had fallen asleep during the flight. As a captain I rely on the alertness of all crew members to insure the safety and comfort of our passenger. Talking with other flight attendants I find that the way they are being used now allows for little rest. Result is a tired flight attendant crew. I think both air carrier and FAA need to look at this usage problem. The company has laid off too many of them and the rest are suffering the overload. I would think, at the least, to put the flight attendants back on an 8 hour behind closed doors instead of this block to block schedule they have had forced on them.
