Narrative:

After reaching cruise altitude, we had a medical emergency which had the potential for a diversion. Doctor, a cardiologist, made the recommendation to divert. After consulting with the doctor, I sensed he would change his divert recommendation if he could consult with the medical doctor on call. In an effort to avoid a maximum landing weight/high elevation airport situation and the potential safety issues, I used my emergency authority/authorized to have the doctor consult with air carrier's doctor using the cockpit satellite radio. This decision led to the reversal of the doctor's recommendation to divert. I felt my emergency authority/authorized action produced a safer outcome of the flight.
