Narrative:

During our climb out from sea, the flight attendant calls the cockpit to let me know an FAA inspector was riding in coach, flashed his credentials and wanted to talk to her when the seat belt sign was off. In cruise, the asi came to the forward galley and expressed his dissatisfaction with the passenger carry-on stowage during boarding. He requested to talk to me at the end of the flight. Mr X waited for me in the jetway till I deplaned. He proceeded to express the same concerns: many passenger with more than 1 carry-on, bags too large to be carry-on, bags not fully stowed beneath the seats, etc. He went on to say that he would not be writing a 'case', but would be talking to our poi about his observations. Supplemental information from acn 588360: the representative was simply traveling and not on duty. The flight was uneventful and normal from my perspective except for the knowledge of an FAA representative on board traveling for pleasure ('off duty,' not assigned to the flight in a duty status).
