Narrative:

Incorrect procedures. An APU failure at departure necessitated maintenance to place the APU on MEL. They returned the logbook with the required sign-off under MEL 49-1. Message appended to the flight plan indicated items required were not accomplished by maintenance. A check with the maintenance controller confirmed that maintenance had complied with out of date requirements in the aircraft MEL book instead of updated requirements. The maintenance controller provided maintenance with the new requirements and the additional 2 pages were complied with, prior to gate departure.
