Narrative:

Preflight review of aircraft logbook indicated that maintenance discrepancy for (wet) magnetic compass had been cleared (fixed) and ok for flight. Upon arrival at destination, I was informed by maintenance that compass had improperly been signed off as 'fixed' because there was no record of a required compass swing having been accomplished. Compass was placed on the MEL as inoperative for the return flight.
