Narrative:

My crew and I departed panc international airport. This departure involved us using the knik 6 standard instrument departure procedure. This procedure has a climb gradient that our aircraft could not comply with and I failed to verify that ATC was informed of this before our departure. As a result, we flew through pamr class D airspace (while in contact with anchorage departure). This flight was an IOE flight for a new copilot and I, as a line check airman, wanted to discuss a theoretical emergency return to anchorage. Prior to this discussion the copilot had already received our IFR clearance and I failed to verify that he informed ATC of our inability to comply with the climb restr. I did not realize that anything was wrong until the next day when my chief pilot informed me of the complaint.
