Narrative:

I had reviewed fom pages fra 10-7A, 10.30.1, 10.30.3, 10.30.6 prior to arrival, and was surprised that the fom description of the parking guidance system differed from that installed. The sun was shining brightly on the terminal building. As we approached the stop point, the fluorescent light tube was obscured by the bright sunlight. I stopped the airplane, but unfortunately too late. Unknown to us, the left engine cowl had contacted the jetway. After engine shutdown, a mechanic came to the cockpit, and informed me that we had contacted the jetway. I later walked down onto the ramp, to inspect the damage. It appeared to me that the jetway had previously been used on a smaller aircraft, and had not been raised to accommodate a B777.
