Narrative:

Last night I spoke with the agent prior to boarding regarding the rest seat policy. Specifically I asked her if she was aware that no person could be put adjacent to our rest seat unless the rest of the business class cabin was full of full fare business passenger. She weakly nodded her head. Sure enough when departure time came the purser informed us that the seat next to us was occupied by a full fare passenger but there were 3 upgrades in business class. Upon hearing this all 3 of us left the cockpit and the captain went to talk to the agent. They showed him the reservation record which tells them that they can in fact put upgrades in business. This has got to stop. Our agreement specifies that this is not allowed for one. Second, is that none of us got adequate rest due to the presence of the passenger in the adjacent seat. The reservation system has to be changed and messages need to be sent to all the affected stations. This is dangerous and aggravating. It is not going to end well, unless it is changed soon. Tired, angry pilots are not what we want, and that is exactly what is happening.
