Narrative:
I was departing the (FBO) for runway 31. I requested progressive taxi since the airport has numerous runways and intxns. Ground advised to make taxi as instructed and I proceeded to runway 31. Along the way, I noticed 2 dogs along the taxiway and reported to ground the dogs and ground acknowledged. The next thing I hear is ground telling me I crossed the hold short line. I was still on the taxiway, but apparently had crossed the hold short line. I asked what to do and was informed if able, do a 180 degree and hold behind the line. I did as instructed. Contacted tower and departed. At some point, ground stopped providing a progressive taxi and I crossed the hold short line which is clearly marked, but in a confusing location. I would recommend for ground to better explain the location of the line, especially when a pilot has requested a progressive taxi.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: BE36 TAXIING FOR DEP AT SGJ CROSSED RWY HOLD LINES.
Narrative: I WAS DEPARTING THE (FBO) FOR RWY 31. I REQUESTED PROGRESSIVE TAXI SINCE THE ARPT HAS NUMEROUS RWYS AND INTXNS. GND ADVISED TO MAKE TAXI AS INSTRUCTED AND I PROCEEDED TO RWY 31. ALONG THE WAY, I NOTICED 2 DOGS ALONG THE TXWY AND RPTED TO GND THE DOGS AND GND ACKNOWLEDGED. THE NEXT THING I HEAR IS GND TELLING ME I CROSSED THE HOLD SHORT LINE. I WAS STILL ON THE TXWY, BUT APPARENTLY HAD CROSSED THE HOLD SHORT LINE. I ASKED WHAT TO DO AND WAS INFORMED IF ABLE, DO A 180 DEG AND HOLD BEHIND THE LINE. I DID AS INSTRUCTED. CONTACTED TWR AND DEPARTED. AT SOME POINT, GND STOPPED PROVIDING A PROGRESSIVE TAXI AND I CROSSED THE HOLD SHORT LINE WHICH IS CLRLY MARKED, BUT IN A CONFUSING LOCATION. I WOULD RECOMMEND FOR GND TO BETTER EXPLAIN THE LOCATION OF THE LINE, ESPECIALLY WHEN A PLT HAS REQUESTED A PROGRESSIVE TAXI.
