Narrative:

Was cleared to taxi from taxiway H to 13F/G intersection for departure on runway 16R. Thought this meant: taxi along taxiway east to the intersection, cross runway 16R and then continue taxiing north along taxiway G until reaching the intersection I usually depart from. I would not normally choose to depart from the 13F/G intersection, because the remaining runway is too short, but I was later advised that's what the controller expected me to do. My error could have been prevented if the taxi clearance had included a 'hold at intersection 13F/G for further clearance' instruction.

Title: ACFT DEPARTING VNY CROSSED RWY WITHOUT ATC CLRNC.

Narrative: WAS CLRED TO TAXI FROM TXWY H TO 13F/G INTXN FOR DEP ON RWY 16R. THOUGHT THIS MEANT: TAXI ALONG TXWY E TO THE INTXN, CROSS RWY 16R AND THEN CONTINUE TAXIING N ALONG TXWY G UNTIL REACHING THE INTXN I USUALLY DEPART FROM. I WOULD NOT NORMALLY CHOOSE TO DEPART FROM THE 13F/G INTXN, BECAUSE THE REMAINING RWY IS TOO SHORT, BUT I WAS LATER ADVISED THAT'S WHAT THE CTLR EXPECTED ME TO DO. MY ERROR COULD HAVE BEEN PREVENTED IF THE TAXI CLRNC HAD INCLUDED A 'HOLD AT INTXN 13F/G FOR FURTHER CLRNC' INSTRUCTION.
