Narrative:

I was assigned to address a 'no autoplt below 500 ft' MFDU message. The message would disappear with hydraulics and rudder actuation. When hydraulic pressure was relieved the message would return. I called ZZZ1 technician and spoke with 'mr X,' on the F100 desk. I informed him of the problem and what I had found looking for guidance. I let him know there were no present faults and there was a history fault on the rudder. He had me conduct a 'sticky switch' test but the message remained. He consequently had me placard the status of the aircraft with reference 22-89B. Upon reviewing the MEL after the aircraft's departure, I see I did not comply with the preface of the MEL and address the actual problem causing the message to be generated.
