Narrative:

While cruising at 5000 ft MSL northwest of lax, we received a GPWS terrain warning and a command to pull up. I directed my sic, who was flying in the left seat, to climb at the same time he started pulling up. A few seconds later, we received an RA on traffic with an advisory to descend. I took control of the jet, and pushed over to a slow descent, since the GPWS warning ceased. We peaked out at approximately 6000 ft MSL. Shortly thereafter, the RA ceased, and I descended back to 5000 ft. I notified ATC (socal approach), and subsequent recovery was uneventful.
