Narrative:

Third leg of 4 on evening trip. Visual approach to runway 24R, heading 180 degrees for course intercept to runway 24R final. Visual with company plane ahead. Autoplt on and approach/VOR localizer engaged at 180 KTS. Autoplt captured and overshot final. Captain disconnected the autoplt as soon as error was noted, but by then, had overshot final for runway 24L. We received an RA and complied with the RA. RA terminated after 3 seconds and landed uneventfully. Approach control said no problem. After landing, called socal approach and talked to supervisor, who also said everything was fine. At no point did we enter the airspace for the south complex. I feel the fact that we were on a 60 degree intercept with the VOR/localizer engaged was a big cause. In the future, in a similar situation, when given a visual approach, I will immediately disengage the autoplt and fly manually.

Narrative: THIRD LEG OF 4 ON EVENING TRIP. VISUAL APCH TO RWY 24R, HDG 180 DEGS FOR COURSE INTERCEPT TO RWY 24R FINAL. VISUAL WITH COMPANY PLANE AHEAD. AUTOPLT ON AND APCH/VOR LOC ENGAGED AT 180 KTS. AUTOPLT CAPTURED AND OVERSHOT FINAL. CAPT DISCONNECTED THE AUTOPLT AS SOON AS ERROR WAS NOTED, BUT BY THEN, HAD OVERSHOT FINAL FOR RWY 24L. WE RECEIVED AN RA AND COMPLIED WITH THE RA. RA TERMINATED AFTER 3 SECONDS AND LANDED UNEVENTFULLY. APCH CTL SAID NO PROB. AFTER LNDG, CALLED SOCAL APCH AND TALKED TO SUPVR, WHO ALSO SAID EVERYTHING WAS FINE. AT NO POINT DID WE ENTER THE AIRSPACE FOR THE S COMPLEX. I FEEL THE FACT THAT WE WERE ON A 60 DEG INTERCEPT WITH THE VOR/LOC ENGAGED WAS A BIG CAUSE. IN THE FUTURE, IN A SIMILAR SIT, WHEN GIVEN A VISUAL APCH, I WILL IMMEDIATELY DISENGAGE THE AUTOPLT AND FLY MANUALLY.
