Narrative:

We departed las. Shortly after takeoff, as we were about to be turned over to the departure controller, we lost the ability to transmit to ATC. We could hear their instructions, but could not respond. ATC could hear us key the microphone, but there was no audio. We acknowledged several xmissions with transponder idents. At one point, the local controller asked if we would like to return to las and to respond with an identify. We did identify, but the controller was distraction with a personal conversation with another aircraft and did not acknowledge. We were cleared to FL190 and given direct to acces intersection. Upon reaching FL190, we were turned over to ZLA. We made a turn off course, hoping to get a clearance to return to las. We were able to communication with ZLA by clicking the microphone button. ZLA cleared us to return to las. All communications thereafter were by clicks of the microphone.
