Narrative:
Flying to an airshow at ZZZ, airport was closing in 3 mins. Tower instructed me to fly directly to airport from power plant instead of following established landing procedure. Made midfield landing on runway 9 without incident. Aircraft were on runway, which I thought was odd, but the tower gave me instructions to turn on base and turn on final for runway 9, so I did. There was space between the aircraft, so I landed safely. I had heard that things are usually 'different' at big fly-in's like this, so I obeyed the tower's instructions. On hindsight, I'll do a go around next time.
