Narrative:

During approach while turning to final, I noticed an aircraft joining below us. I asked ATC if they were joining runway 36L and they said yes. We were at 4000 ft, cleared for the approach. As we started our turn, we went through the localizer slightly and elected to go around because we were too high to make the safe approach. I think ATC kept us high to avoid the merging traffic to runway 36L. We made an uneventful go around from 3500 ft and a return land on runway 35C.
