Narrative:

On this event date (jan/tue/03), teb was using VOR/DME-a approachs with circle-to-land runway 19. WX was good VFR (this is a common procedure). After circling overhead and turning left for the downwind leg to runway 19, I called for 'gear down.' both crew noted the right main green light did not illuminate and the right main gear door light remained 'red' (in transit). There was also a flashing red light in the gear (down) handle. We attempted 1 recycle and still observed the above condition. Rolling final, I had the PNF/first officer request a fly-by so teb tower could observe right main actual position. As we flew by teb tower and several aircraft below, or on ground, they reported that the right main 'appeared down.' I requested an extended pattern to execute emergency extension checklist and had PNF declare an emergency as a precaution. After completing the emergency extend checklist, we still had the same 'gear unsafe' indications. Turning final on the second landing attempt, I called for 'land flaps.' at this time, we heard the gear horn which is 'unchangeable.' having 3 indications of 'gear unsafe' (door light, gear handle flashing and horn), I called for flaps up to 20 degrees. I asked the PNF to request vectors to a holding fix to further analyze our situation. Teb tower coordinated a handoff to new york approach and we were given a climb and holding at stw VOR. En route to stw VOR, I xferred PF duties to first officer in the right seat, and I used the aircraft flight phone to call home base to apprise them of our situation and solicit feedback. I asked them to call the manufacturer and they gave me the 800 number to call the manufacturer directly from the aircraft. During a brief conversation, both of us crew members observed the right main gear light turn steady green. We requested a return to teb. New york approach asked if we were still declaring an emergency and I replied 'negative.' we continued to a landing at teb with '3 green.' though we had canceled the 'emergency,' I requested teb tower to 'have the equipment standing by as a precaution.' our passenger were briefed initially and updated after we proceeded back inbound with '3 green.' the landing was uneventful/normal. We requested assistance from contract maintenance in teb. Due to workload, they coordination with our maintenance department to have repairs performed by the manufacturer. Teb FSDO called FBO contract maintenance requesting a faxed copy of the logbook signoff. The maintenance team replaced 2 proximity switches on the right main gear assembly overnight and the aircraft departed teb the next morning. Appropriate logbook sign-offs and work orders were faxed to teb FAA FSDO prior to departing. As a backup, I notified our home base FSDO (agc) and spoke with an inspector. We jointly agreed that no further action was needed since we landed with '3 green' and no damage, etc. I am filing this report to affirm proper procedures were followed to the best of my knowledge. Job well done to teb tower controllers who calmly reacted to our requests for visual confirmation, extended patterns, handoffs to new york approach control, etc. Job well done and thanks to teb tower, teb ground crash fire rescue equipment personnel, and new york approach for their professionalism in assisting.

Title: AN FA50 CAPT RPTED LNDG GEAR PROBS WHEN LNDG AT TEB.

Narrative: ON THIS EVENT DATE (JAN/TUE/03), TEB WAS USING VOR/DME-A APCHS WITH CIRCLE-TO-LAND RWY 19. WX WAS GOOD VFR (THIS IS A COMMON PROC). AFTER CIRCLING OVERHEAD AND TURNING L FOR THE DOWNWIND LEG TO RWY 19, I CALLED FOR 'GEAR DOWN.' BOTH CREW NOTED THE R MAIN GREEN LIGHT DID NOT ILLUMINATE AND THE R MAIN GEAR DOOR LIGHT REMAINED 'RED' (IN TRANSIT). THERE WAS ALSO A FLASHING RED LIGHT IN THE GEAR (DOWN) HANDLE. WE ATTEMPTED 1 RECYCLE AND STILL OBSERVED THE ABOVE CONDITION. ROLLING FINAL, I HAD THE PNF/FO REQUEST A FLY-BY SO TEB TWR COULD OBSERVE R MAIN ACTUAL POS. AS WE FLEW BY TEB TWR AND SEVERAL ACFT BELOW, OR ON GND, THEY RPTED THAT THE R MAIN 'APPEARED DOWN.' I REQUESTED AN EXTENDED PATTERN TO EXECUTE EMER EXTENSION CHKLIST AND HAD PNF DECLARE AN EMER AS A PRECAUTION. AFTER COMPLETING THE EMER EXTEND CHKLIST, WE STILL HAD THE SAME 'GEAR UNSAFE' INDICATIONS. TURNING FINAL ON THE SECOND LNDG ATTEMPT, I CALLED FOR 'LAND FLAPS.' AT THIS TIME, WE HEARD THE GEAR HORN WHICH IS 'UNCHANGEABLE.' HAVING 3 INDICATIONS OF 'GEAR UNSAFE' (DOOR LIGHT, GEAR HANDLE FLASHING AND HORN), I CALLED FOR FLAPS UP TO 20 DEGS. I ASKED THE PNF TO REQUEST VECTORS TO A HOLDING FIX TO FURTHER ANALYZE OUR SIT. TEB TWR COORDINATED A HDOF TO NEW YORK APCH AND WE WERE GIVEN A CLB AND HOLDING AT STW VOR. ENRTE TO STW VOR, I XFERRED PF DUTIES TO FO IN THE R SEAT, AND I USED THE ACFT FLT PHONE TO CALL HOME BASE TO APPRISE THEM OF OUR SIT AND SOLICIT FEEDBACK. I ASKED THEM TO CALL THE MANUFACTURER AND THEY GAVE ME THE 800 NUMBER TO CALL THE MANUFACTURER DIRECTLY FROM THE ACFT. DURING A BRIEF CONVERSATION, BOTH OF US CREW MEMBERS OBSERVED THE R MAIN GEAR LIGHT TURN STEADY GREEN. WE REQUESTED A RETURN TO TEB. NEW YORK APCH ASKED IF WE WERE STILL DECLARING AN EMER AND I REPLIED 'NEGATIVE.' WE CONTINUED TO A LNDG AT TEB WITH '3 GREEN.' THOUGH WE HAD CANCELED THE 'EMER,' I REQUESTED TEB TWR TO 'HAVE THE EQUIP STANDING BY AS A PRECAUTION.' OUR PAX WERE BRIEFED INITIALLY AND UPDATED AFTER WE PROCEEDED BACK INBOUND WITH '3 GREEN.' THE LNDG WAS UNEVENTFUL/NORMAL. WE REQUESTED ASSISTANCE FROM CONTRACT MAINT IN TEB. DUE TO WORKLOAD, THEY COORD WITH OUR MAINT DEPT TO HAVE REPAIRS PERFORMED BY THE MANUFACTURER. TEB FSDO CALLED FBO CONTRACT MAINT REQUESTING A FAXED COPY OF THE LOGBOOK SIGNOFF. THE MAINT TEAM REPLACED 2 PROX SWITCHES ON THE R MAIN GEAR ASSEMBLY OVERNIGHT AND THE ACFT DEPARTED TEB THE NEXT MORNING. I AM FILING THIS RPT TO AFFIRM PROPER PROCS WERE FOLLOWED TO THE BEST OF MY KNOWLEDGE. JOB WELL DONE TO TEB TWR CTLRS WHO CALMLY REACTED TO OUR REQUESTS FOR VISUAL CONFIRMATION, EXTENDED PATTERNS, HDOFS TO NEW YORK APCH CTL, ETC. JOB WELL DONE AND THANKS TO TEB TWR, TEB GND CFR PERSONNEL, AND NEW YORK APCH FOR THEIR PROFESSIONALISM IN ASSISTING.
