Narrative:

Location -- 5 mi east of miami airport, we were in flight. Abc cleared miami 7 winco transition departure control frequency listed on the departure was 119.45 for our sector. We were cleared to taxi to runway 9L. When we got there, the next 3 airplanes to take off were abd, abe, and us, abc. We were then told to transition to runway 12. We did set up properly, cleared for takeoff, told to contact departure. No frequency was given. We contacted departure passing 1000 ft, departure said air carrier X abc turn left heading 020 degrees, climb and maintain 7000 ft. We acknowledged with full call sign and complied. About the time we rolled out on runway 20, we received a TA on TCASII, and visually acquired the air carrier Y aircraft 300 ft below, and we were going to pass slightly behind. In a moment, departure called us and said -- 'air carrier X abc, I thought I was talking to air carrier X abe -- you should have been given a turn to the south and handed off to departure on 125.5.' we feel we were vigilant, complied with and acknowledged all instructions properly. The turn to runway 20 seemed reasonable as we were headed southeast, and our fix was northwest. I feel this incident occurred, because of all the similar call signs coming in and out of mia. The first officer and I both commented on the problem and to be extra vigilant. As a side aircraft right ahead of us was an air carrier X afg, we need to shuffle the call signs in mia so they all aren't similar.
