Narrative:

At around XA00 we pushed back for takeoff at mdw. Runway 31C was in use for lndgs and departures. We were asked by tower if we could take off on runway 22L. We told them we could, so we were told to taxi to runway 22L, then given the clearance to position and hold. We sat there for several mins as planes landed and took off on the crossing runway (runway 31C). Finally, we were cleared for takeoff. As I started to push the throttles up, before I released the brakes, we saw another plane, which had just landed on runway 31C, apparently trying to stop before he reached our runway. It looked like he might have trouble stopping in time, so I pulled back the throttles to idle. He taxied through our takeoff runway, and then turned off. When he was well through our runway, we were finally told by tower to cancel our takeoff clearance.

Title: AS A B757 PUSHED UP ITS THROTTLES, BUT BEFORE THE BRAKES WERE RELEASED, THE FLT CREW NOTICED LNDG TFC ON A XING RWY THAT WAS UNABLE TO HOLD SHORT OF DEP RWY. THE B757 FLT CREW PULLED BACK THE THROTTLES.

Narrative: AT AROUND XA00 WE PUSHED BACK FOR TKOF AT MDW. RWY 31C WAS IN USE FOR LNDGS AND DEPS. WE WERE ASKED BY TWR IF WE COULD TAKE OFF ON RWY 22L. WE TOLD THEM WE COULD, SO WE WERE TOLD TO TAXI TO RWY 22L, THEN GIVEN THE CLRNC TO POS AND HOLD. WE SAT THERE FOR SEVERAL MINS AS PLANES LANDED AND TOOK OFF ON THE XING RWY (RWY 31C). FINALLY, WE WERE CLRED FOR TKOF. AS I STARTED TO PUSH THE THROTTLES UP, BEFORE I RELEASED THE BRAKES, WE SAW ANOTHER PLANE, WHICH HAD JUST LANDED ON RWY 31C, APPARENTLY TRYING TO STOP BEFORE HE REACHED OUR RWY. IT LOOKED LIKE HE MIGHT HAVE TROUBLE STOPPING IN TIME, SO I PULLED BACK THE THROTTLES TO IDLE. HE TAXIED THROUGH OUR TKOF RWY, AND THEN TURNED OFF. WHEN HE WAS WELL THROUGH OUR RWY, WE WERE FINALLY TOLD BY TWR TO CANCEL OUR TKOF CLRNC.
