Narrative:

Smoke alarm/returned to sju. We were 1/2 way between sju and ZZZ at FL380 when the aft lavatory alarm went off. I was called immediately with the flight attendant saying secondary indications of an odor. We turned towards sju and declared an emergency. The alarm was turned off manually by the flight attendant after 1 1/2 min with the odor dissipating. No more indications with alarm or odor. Landing and taxi into gate all uneventful.

Title: B757-200 CREW HAD LAVATORY SMOKE DETECTOR ALARM SOUND. THE INVESTIGATING FLT ATTENDANT ALSO DETECTED AN ODOR.

Narrative: SMOKE ALARM/RETURNED TO SJU. WE WERE 1/2 WAY BTWN SJU AND ZZZ AT FL380 WHEN THE AFT LAVATORY ALARM WENT OFF. I WAS CALLED IMMEDIATELY WITH THE FLT ATTENDANT SAYING SECONDARY INDICATIONS OF AN ODOR. WE TURNED TOWARDS SJU AND DECLARED AN EMER. THE ALARM WAS TURNED OFF MANUALLY BY THE FLT ATTENDANT AFTER 1 1/2 MIN WITH THE ODOR DISSIPATING. NO MORE INDICATIONS WITH ALARM OR ODOR. LNDG AND TAXI INTO GATE ALL UNEVENTFUL.
