Narrative:

Arriving cvg along the sweed six STAR at approximately 10000 ft in VMC above a solid undercast that stretched as far as the eye could see in every direction, we selected our wing and cowl anti-ice system on in preparation for entering the reported icing conditions below. However, we received a right cowl anti-ice caution message. We coordinated with ATC to remain VMC above the clouds while completing the abnormal procedures checklist. We then called maintenance control, but they had no ideas about how to alleviate the problem. Unable to enter icing conditions, we consulted with dispatch to find a VMC diversionary airport. Ind was chosen. We proceeded uneventfully to ind where our passenger were deplaned at the gate and contract maintenance determined that the cowl anti-ice valve had failed.

Title: A CANADAIR CL65 DIVERTED DUE TO R COWLING ANTI-ICE VALVE FAILURE PREVIOUS TO DSNDING THROUGH ICING CONDITIONS.

Narrative: ARRIVING CVG ALONG THE SWEED SIX STAR AT APPROX 10000 FT IN VMC ABOVE A SOLID UNDERCAST THAT STRETCHED AS FAR AS THE EYE COULD SEE IN EVERY DIRECTION, WE SELECTED OUR WING AND COWL ANTI-ICE SYS ON IN PREPARATION FOR ENTERING THE RPTED ICING CONDITIONS BELOW. HOWEVER, WE RECEIVED A R COWL ANTI-ICE CAUTION MESSAGE. WE COORDINATED WITH ATC TO REMAIN VMC ABOVE THE CLOUDS WHILE COMPLETING THE ABNORMAL PROCS CHKLIST. WE THEN CALLED MAINT CTL, BUT THEY HAD NO IDEAS ABOUT HOW TO ALLEVIATE THE PROB. UNABLE TO ENTER ICING CONDITIONS, WE CONSULTED WITH DISPATCH TO FIND A VMC DIVERSIONARY ARPT. IND WAS CHOSEN. WE PROCEEDED UNEVENTFULLY TO IND WHERE OUR PAX WERE DEPLANED AT THE GATE AND CONTRACT MAINT DETERMINED THAT THE COWL ANTI-ICE VALVE HAD FAILED.
