Narrative:

I was assigned heading 260 degrees, descent to 2000 ft, slow to 150 KTS. While we were slowing and descending, ATC advised of traffic, speed 150 KTS, 1 O'clock position was a C402. We advised we had traffic in sight. We were told to follow traffic. After traffic had time to pass at our 12 O'clock position, we lost sight of traffic due to ground lights. We started left turn and advised ATC we lost our traffic to follow. They told us to contact dal tower. After we contacted tower, they advised of traffic alerter 12 O'clock, 1 1/2 mi. Since we had lost our traffic we were not sure which way to go. We asked the tower for vectors. They told us to turn easterly. The traffic we were trying to follow was on final at dfw (wrong airport for us), but it appeared to be a base leg for our intended airport. After talking to ATC, they said the traffic we were to follow was at 11 O'clock position, but my copilot and I understood 1 O'clock position. I feel like they should have told us we were not following the right traffic and should have turned us sooner.

Title: POTENTIAL CONFLICT WITH ANOTHER ACFT AND AN APCH TO WRONG ARPT CREDITED TO THE FLC OF BE200 10 NM NW OF DAL, TX.

Narrative: I WAS ASSIGNED HDG 260 DEGS, DSCNT TO 2000 FT, SLOW TO 150 KTS. WHILE WE WERE SLOWING AND DSNDING, ATC ADVISED OF TFC, SPD 150 KTS, 1 O'CLOCK POS WAS A C402. WE ADVISED WE HAD TFC IN SIGHT. WE WERE TOLD TO FOLLOW TFC. AFTER TFC HAD TIME TO PASS AT OUR 12 O'CLOCK POS, WE LOST SIGHT OF TFC DUE TO GND LIGHTS. WE STARTED L TURN AND ADVISED ATC WE LOST OUR TFC TO FOLLOW. THEY TOLD US TO CONTACT DAL TWR. AFTER WE CONTACTED TWR, THEY ADVISED OF TFC ALERTER 12 O'CLOCK, 1 1/2 MI. SINCE WE HAD LOST OUR TFC WE WERE NOT SURE WHICH WAY TO GO. WE ASKED THE TWR FOR VECTORS. THEY TOLD US TO TURN EASTERLY. THE TFC WE WERE TRYING TO FOLLOW WAS ON FINAL AT DFW (WRONG ARPT FOR US), BUT IT APPEARED TO BE A BASE LEG FOR OUR INTENDED ARPT. AFTER TALKING TO ATC, THEY SAID THE TFC WE WERE TO FOLLOW WAS AT 11 O'CLOCK POS, BUT MY COPLT AND I UNDERSTOOD 1 O'CLOCK POS. I FEEL LIKE THEY SHOULD HAVE TOLD US WE WERE NOT FOLLOWING THE RIGHT TFC AND SHOULD HAVE TURNED US SOONER.
