Narrative:

I was inbound to las on the SKEBR1 RNAV arrival. As I was crossing 'clarr' (waypoint), the las vegas approach controller advised me to plan for the runway 25L arrival route. (I had previously set up for the runway 19R/left route.) I rushed to set up the FMS (I operate the citation jet single pilot) and mistakenly set up for the runway 7L/right rt. This caused me to stray from my assigned route/course. As I recognized the situation, the controller asked me what had happened and requested that I call him on the ground, which I did. In my opinion, the clutter on the arrival chart was a big factor in this situation. The chart has numerous rtes and waypoints which are not clearly marked. Each runway has its own routing (there are 4 possible directions in which to land) and the procedure is very confusing. I believe that this procedure should be edited/revised into 2 separate procedures, thereby simplifying things and reducing the possibility for error.

Title: A CITATION SINGLE PLT, FLYING A STAR TO LAS, PROGRAMMED THE FMS FOR THE WRONG RWY, RESULTING IN A COURSE DEV AND A QUERY FROM ATC.

Narrative: I WAS INBOUND TO LAS ON THE SKEBR1 RNAV ARR. AS I WAS XING 'CLARR' (WAYPOINT), THE LAS VEGAS APCH CTLR ADVISED ME TO PLAN FOR THE RWY 25L ARR RTE. (I HAD PREVIOUSLY SET UP FOR THE RWY 19R/L RTE.) I RUSHED TO SET UP THE FMS (I OPERATE THE CITATION JET SINGLE PLT) AND MISTAKENLY SET UP FOR THE RWY 7L/R RT. THIS CAUSED ME TO STRAY FROM MY ASSIGNED RTE/COURSE. AS I RECOGNIZED THE SIT, THE CTLR ASKED ME WHAT HAD HAPPENED AND REQUESTED THAT I CALL HIM ON THE GND, WHICH I DID. IN MY OPINION, THE CLUTTER ON THE ARR CHART WAS A BIG FACTOR IN THIS SIT. THE CHART HAS NUMEROUS RTES AND WAYPOINTS WHICH ARE NOT CLRLY MARKED. EACH RWY HAS ITS OWN ROUTING (THERE ARE 4 POSSIBLE DIRECTIONS IN WHICH TO LAND) AND THE PROC IS VERY CONFUSING. I BELIEVE THAT THIS PROC SHOULD BE EDITED/REVISED INTO 2 SEPARATE PROCS, THEREBY SIMPLIFYING THINGS AND REDUCING THE POSSIBILITY FOR ERROR.
