Narrative:

Although I have flown at vny for almost 30 yrs, I passed the hold short markings at intersection 13 approaching runway 16R from the east. While I did stop short of the runway, I was admonished for not stopping at the proper location. I have tried to figure why I did this and have come up with the following explanations: 1) I was told by the ground controller to taxi to runway 16R via intersection 13. Because of either fatigue, rush, heat, or just inattn, I processed this instruction erroneously. I always hold short of runway 16R when taxiing this route, or take off from that intersection, but got too close to the runway on this occasion. I may have been adjusting the GPS at the time, but do not remember.

Title: BEECH 33 PLT INADVERTENTLY STOPPED PAST THE RWY HOLD SHORT LINE WHEN HOLDING SHORT OF THE RWY.

Narrative: ALTHOUGH I HAVE FLOWN AT VNY FOR ALMOST 30 YRS, I PASSED THE HOLD SHORT MARKINGS AT INTXN 13 APCHING RWY 16R FROM THE E. WHILE I DID STOP SHORT OF THE RWY, I WAS ADMONISHED FOR NOT STOPPING AT THE PROPER LOCATION. I HAVE TRIED TO FIGURE WHY I DID THIS AND HAVE COME UP WITH THE FOLLOWING EXPLANATIONS: 1) I WAS TOLD BY THE GND CTLR TO TAXI TO RWY 16R VIA INTXN 13. BECAUSE OF EITHER FATIGUE, RUSH, HEAT, OR JUST INATTN, I PROCESSED THIS INSTRUCTION ERRONEOUSLY. I ALWAYS HOLD SHORT OF RWY 16R WHEN TAXIING THIS RTE, OR TAKE OFF FROM THAT INTXN, BUT GOT TOO CLOSE TO THE RWY ON THIS OCCASION. I MAY HAVE BEEN ADJUSTING THE GPS AT THE TIME, BUT DO NOT REMEMBER.
